Senior Valve Specialist - 007QP

BASIC PURPOSE/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide consultation to project design teams and operating facilities to apply expertise pertaining to manual process valves to ensure system mechanical integrity and reliability. Areas of responsibility include world-wide Upstream and Downstream capital projects and operating facilities, with support provided as appropriate for Joint Ventures.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide technical support to operating facilities for problem solving related to valves and their components, and develop recommendations to reduce or eliminate premature failures. * Provide technical support during the capital project FEL process to provide appropriate input for any valve-related issues. * Lead the development and implementation of valve standards and best practices so that continuous improvement can be accomplished corporate-wide in design, operation, and maintenance of valves. Ensure that valve purchasing, manufacturing, testing and maintenance best practices are captured and are made available throughout the company. * Provide leadership through knowledge networks and site personnel to share valve-related problems and failures, as well as corrective measures taken. * Work with appropriate personnel to develop, implement & maintain a knowledge management system to capture appropriate valve data, update equipment records & repair histories, and provide information to update relevant company engineering standards. * Provide technical input to qualification of rebuild shops, as well as shop repair and testing procedures. * Work with corporate Global Procurement Services on development and maintenance of approved valve manufacturers list, and to ensure acceptable material quality and supplier QA/QC. * Coordinate with corporate valve emissions program personnel to develop best practices for EPA LDAR fugitive emission compliance efforts, including appropriate packing designs. * Keep up with new developments in applicable industry codes and regulatory compliance issues. Represent COP on appropriate code committees (e.g. API 591, etc.). * Participate in applicable industry technical societies and other organizations in order to leverage industry knowledge and experience (e.g. Process Industry Practices, API Refinery Piping Subcommittee, etc.).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Extensive experience in valve design, fabrication, repair, and testing, as well as materials of construction. * Bachelors or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related mechanical field * Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Skills:
* Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards for valves including:
ASME B16.34 - Valves: Flanges, Threaded, & Welding End
API 591 - Process Valve Qualification Procedure
API 594 - Check Valves: Flanged, Lug, Wafer and Butt-welding
API 598 - Valve Inspection and Testing API 600 - Bolted Bonnet Steel Gate Valves for Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries API 602 - Compact Steel Gate Valves - Flanged, Threaded, Welding and Extended Body Ends API 607 - Testing of Valves - Fire Type-testing Requirements
API 608 - Metal Ball Valves-Flanged, Threaded and Butt Welding Ends API 609 - Butterfly Valves: Double Flanged, Lug and Wafer Type

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* Anticipated job responsibility split: 80% Upstream, 20% Downstream * Job requires an average of 50% travel, sometimes for extended durations * Willingness to travel internationally and offshore
