Instrument craftworkers work in the maintenance department of the refinery. The positions are straight day jobs, subject to occasional shift work, turnarounds, call outs and mandatory overtime. Instrument craftworkers may be responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, repair and troubleshooting of refinery process control instrumentation. This work takes place in all areas of the refinery, outside exposed to the weather elements and to blowing air, heat, noise and vibration. The refinery processes involve hazardous and volitile materials under high temperatures and pressures. The work may take place at heights on vessels and towers and/or in confined spaces.
Relocation is not available for this position.
The Maintenance Mechanic - Instrument may be responsible for:
* Striving for excellence in all health, safety and environmental matters in their area of responsibility as well as in the Los Angeles Refinery plants & facilities and the surrounding community.
* Responsible for own safety/health and for promoting the health and safety of others, and performing quality work in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner.
* Responsible for complying with Company policies and procedures, established standards, and governmental regulations (federal, state, and local).
* Communicating with employees and contractors concerning safety, health and environmentally-related requirements and regulations to help promote a safe working environment.
* Demonstrating personal commitment to health, safety, and environmental objectives.
* Installing, removing, calibrating and repairing of refinery electronic digital and analog and pneumatic process control instruments * Installing and maintaining on-line analyzers * Testing and maintaining Instrument Safety Systems
* Troubleshooting, maintaining and overhauling process control valves
* Fabricating small diameter instrument tubing
* Preparing schematic drawings, sketches and reports to reflect activities
* Coordinating work of others as needed
*
Reading and interpreting documentation such as schematics and procedures
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age * Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions * High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent * Valid driver's license * Minimum of 1 year of craft experience. * Ability to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals.
Preferred Qualifications
* Graduation from a technical trade school is recommended. * Completion of an apprenticeship, certification (e.g. NCCER) or associate degree program in instrumentation or related studies * Proficiency in computer useage basics including e-mail, Windows navigation * Ability to clearly communicate in writing and orally (English language) * Ability to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals (English language)
Conditions of employment may include
* Pass the physical agility test to meet the minimum standards for physical requirements of the position. * Have the ability to pass all necessary tests as administered by a state certified testing lab. * Pass a general skills test and a craft specific test. * Proficient in basic trade math. * Pass pre-employment background check, physical exam, and drug/alcohol screening * Submitting to random drug and alocohol testing * Ability to work shift schedule and/or overtime as needed
